Prince Complex is a non-profit youth organization that offers a viable alternative to the problems facing disadvantaged, inner-city youth. Since its Inception in 1998, Prince Complex has provided athletic, recreational and academic programs to over thousands inner-city youth. Prince Complex began as a passionate vision of James Prince, founder and CEO of Rap A Lot Records. With his own private resources, James Prince and Lloyd Prince established Prince Complex as a community safe haven for youth in the Greater Fifth Ward Community. For the past eight years, Prince Complex has been curtailing juvenile crime, drug abuse, and the number of high school drop outs in the Greater Fifth Ward Community. Prince Complex strongly believes that young people with idle time and a lack of direction will become susceptible to social and peer pressure that could result in falling prey to the influence of crime and drugs. It is the aim of Prince Complex is to provide a meaningful and positive cultural experience for disadvantaged youth through sponsorship of educational, athletic, and recreational activities. Prince Complex offers after school programs which include Home work assistance, computer training, and food, nutrition, art and science classes. These programs are offered through collaborative partnerships with other community organizations.
Prince Complex is open to all children and youth; specifically targeting at-risk youth between the ages of 7 - 17 showing a significantly high incidence of anti-social and delinquent behavior and is uniquely designed to foster self esteem, self-respect, confidence, spiritual Growth, and purpose in the lives of youth. Prince Complex and it staff depend highly on committed volunteers. For additional information on volunteering at Prince Complex click here.
The overall goal of Prince Complex is to curtail juvenile crime, drug abuse and gang involvement, while promoting physical fitness and maximizing personal growth and success. The main focus of our programs is to provide a successful and enriching experience for our young people which instills discipline and facilitates a sense of accomplishment necessary for improving the self-image of our youth as they travel the Pathway to Empowerment.
Prince Complex provides athletic and recreation programs, academic enrichment programs and special year round events for our youth and seniors. These programs are designed to teach our target audience discipline, work ethic and cooperation in a non-threatening environment. Our program coordinators are governed by faith-based principles to foster mutual respect and dignity among all of our participants. You will be amazed at how well a young person responds when they are nurtured in such an environment.

No matter how much you give, your contribution will improve the lives of young people in our community giving them a chance at a better and brighter future!
The Athletic and Recreation Programs provide supervised, structured recreational and cultural activities after school, thus reducing idle time and keeping youth off the street. This lessens the opportunity for youth to become involved in juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, and other anti-social behavior.
Basketball - Prince Complex has a fully equipped basketball gym where youth ages 8 to 20 come to play basketball after school. Recreation includes organized team play and unstructured individual play. The basketball gym is open Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 7:00p.m.
Fitness Center/Weight Training Room - The Weight training room is fully equipped with nautilus and aerobic equipment (i.e. treadmills, stationary bicycles), and free weights for strength training. The room is fully carpeted for floor exercises, stretching and balancing.
Boxing - Prince Complex Boxing Program is designed for males between the ages of 7 and 17 years of age. Participants receive instruction in the identification of basic boxing equipment and its use, the development of basic boxing techniques, and offensive and defensive strategies. Once a participant has demonstrated a reasonable grasp of boxing fundamentals, he is allowed to perform in supervised boxing exhibitions/competitions. The Youth Boxing Program operates Monday through Friday, 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Computer Literacy - In 2003, Prince Complex was designated as an I-Community by the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation. This designation enables Prince Complex to establish a computer lab and to become a Technology Access Point (TAP) within the community. The computer technology center uses T-1 high speed Internet connectivity. The computer lab is also used in the afternoon for afterschool academic enrichment.
Summer Enrichment Camp - Our summer camp is designed for children ages 5-12 to have a fun and enriching experience during the summer months (June - August). We expose the children to new experiences by taking them on field trips throughout the summer months. The children visit places like the Houston Zoo, Mrs. Bairds Bakery, Old McDonald's Farm, The Ensemble Theatre and so much more. Children also participate in stimulating activities meant to educate and inspire such as writing camps, a theatre arts program and recreational activities.
Seniors Program
The seniors meet every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for fellowship, fun, and friendship. Their day begins with a continental breakfast; Later gathering for lunch where a guest speaker or pastor will make a presentation or deliver a sermon. There is also a food pantry dedicated to meeting the needs of our senior citizens.
Prince Complex is open everyday for seniors who want to walk inside the Recreational Center.
We are so glad you considered joining us this year!
As you know summer is a very exciting time in a child’s life and we want to make this summer a very special time for all of the children who attend our camp. This year camp will begin on June 2, 2008 and continue through August 22, 2008. The camp is open to all children ages 5 to 14.
During the camp the children will engage in sports, creative arts, culinary arts, gardening, theatre arts and cultural/educational field trips. Our goal is to stimulate their minds and expose them to experiences they may not have had before. This year’s camp will also feature our Theatre Arts Program (TAG) which was so successful last year and will conclude at the end of the summer with a full-costume stage performance at a local theatre. We welcome all eligible children to audition to be a part of this exciting event.
If you are interested in becoming one of our Camp Counselors please review our requirements and submit your resume to Dione Green. We also seek volunteers to assist us during this very busy time.
